Our story

A journey of innovation, growth and milestones

IBTM World (formerly EIBTM) was once held in Switzerland, in Zurich and later in the Basel or Geneva region, before moving to Barcelona in 2004. In response to its departure, two Swiss industry platforms, MICE-Tip and Swiss Sales, joined forces and founded ConferenceArena in 2012. Their mission: to bring a dedicated MICE trade show back to Zurich — reimagined with a uniquely Swiss character.

2026 - comeback

10 Editions. One clear signal: A special highlight awaits in 2026 as ConferenceArena celebrates its 10th edition – a major milestone in its journey. New formats, strong partners and international perspectives will shape the event and reaffirm its relevance in Switzerland’s MICE landscape. Expect top speakers, hands-on workshops, powerful networking opportunities and fresh momentum for the future of the industry.

2023 - A new chapter

Leadership change and digital transformation: A turning point came in 2023 with the appointment of Roger Schaer as Managing Director. Under his leadership, ConferenceArena began a strategic repositioning with renewed relevance, stronger industry ties and a clear future vision. Highlights included a full website relaunch, modern communication tools, and a stronger digital presence across multiple channels.

2020-2022 - A pause

Covid, stillness – a time to reorient: When the event industry fell into a kind of Sleeping Beauty slumber, ConferenceArena too entered a quieter phase. In these uncertain times, the Covid-19 pandemic halted in-person gatherings, creating an opportunity for reflection and strategic rethinking. While silent on the outside, this period was used to reassess values, realign goals and reimagine the format’s future role.

2019 - Sustainability

One-time relocation and sustainability milestone: For one edition only, ConferenceArena 2019 was held at Ambassador House in Opfikon – one of the most modern and versatile conference venues in the region. In the same year, the event became the first climate-positive MICE exhibition in Switzerland. This special edition reflected both a spirit of experimentation and a forward-thinking approach to sustainable event management.

2018 - a new identity

Rebranding and respositioning: In 2018, the event was rebranded as ConferenceArena and moved to Stage One in Zurich. With a refreshed identity and new location, the format introduced more interaction, stronger experiences and a clearer focus on the industry’s evolving needs. This marked a strategic step toward becoming a modern, forward-looking B2B platform for Switzerland’s event and meeting professionals – with growing visibility and relevance.

2013 - The beginning

From KonferenzArena to a trusted industry platform: ConferenceArena made its debut in 2013 under the name KonferenzArena at Kongresshaus Zurich. What began as a local industry gathering quickly evolved into a popular meeting point for professionals from event planning, marketing, communications and corporate hospitality. The format was shaped by relevance, personal exchange and a growing demand for MICE-focused platforms in Switzerland.
